FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you have a studio?
No, I am an on-location, natural light photographer. My style is very documentary in nature. I do my graphic design, artwork, and photo editing in a “home studio” but it is not open to the public.
Do you have props for photoshoots?
Due to the nature of my work and style, I do not provide props. Those are up to the client.
Is this your full-time job?
While I work full-time as a creative, I do not work for myself full time. My full time job is in marketing, graphic design, and photography in the hospitality industry.
What is your typical turnaround time for photography?
2-4 weeks for portrait sessions, 4-6 weeks for events.
What is the turnaround for graphic design?
On average, I would say most commissions that are not illustrative take 8-10 hours of design, not including editing time from client feedback. This is why I typically work hourly with graphic design, every project is so different.
Do you work outside of Rock County, Wisconsin?
On occasion, though that is dependent on availability and location which can be subject to travel fees. If I am working outside the area I typically work in Dane County and Southeastern Wisconsin near Milwaukee as I have lived and have family and friends in both areas.
How far in advance do I need to book a session or commission a project?
This depends on the scope of the project and my availability. I do work full-time outside of my freelance creative work, so my time can be rather limited. For photographic work, the earlier the better—at least 1-3 months in advance so I can be sure I have openings in my schedule and that we have time to rain-check should the weather not cooperate. I typically get more graphic design and illustrative work during the winter and early spring, and photographic work during the warmer months.
Does time of day matter for my photo shoot?
Absolutely. I almost exclusively book sessions in the evening during “golden hour” (2 hours before sunset) when the light is warm, glowy, and flattering. Overcast days are the second-best option but cannot be planned on, and if you are looking to be photographed somewhere such as a wooded area, we are more flexible with when that shoot can happen. The higher the sun is in the sky without cloud cover, the harsher and more shadowy images can look. I want to photograph you in the best light.
What if I need to cancel my shoot?
I get that things happen, and I am flexible with cancellations. I ask that you try to cancel/ask to reschedule 7-14 days in advance as outlined on my contract. However, deposits are nonrefundable and if reschedules are cancelled too many times (this doesn’t happen often), I reserve the right to cancel contracts and keep the deposit. I only return deposits if there is an “Act of God” on my end or on the end of a client. In this economy, I understand
Do you ever offer special deals or sales?
On occasion, and these deals are almost always limited. For example, I occasionally offer photography specials based on season or if there is a portfolio I want to update or tip my toe into a service. For graphic design, I prefer to do most of that work during the colder months while I am cooped up inside anyways, and I typically receive more design inquiries early in the year as businesses look to start new projects or refresh their brand—so I may offer something to incentivize that from time-to-time.
Is there any photographic work you WON’T do?
My books are largely closed for weddings, children, and families. Not saying I never do them, but I typically only take these types of photographic work on for family or friends. I am trying to prioritize my freelance work for work I am the best at doing and enjoy doing. I occasionally do Mini Sessions for families, so make sure you follow me on social media as that is where I announce updates and special offers if I have them.
I purchased digital files of my photographs. Where can I print them?
I highly recommend MPIX or Nations Photo Lab.
If I purchased prints from you, where do you print them?
I outsource my printing to ProDPI. They are high-quality, and pro-planet.
